Somehow I have gone through life without hearing this song. I have read about how epic it is and how Eric Clapton is a god, but I thought nothing of it until I finally heard it once on the radio and that was it. I'm a goner for this track. LOVE it!
This track is beyond epic. It plays at work at least 4 times a day and us ladies at Sweethart of the Rodeo stomp around to it with our clunky work boots or Dr. Martens.
This song has been my jam for 24 hours. Let's see how long it can go.
This video is phallic symbol central. Full of tribal beats, rats, and a little Casper like character. Ninja hits it hard talking about his "nub" and Yolandi takes off Diplo's pants.
I've been getting into some "off the wall" music lately down here in the Crystal Cave.
No more Stones. It's dubstep and Die Antwoord all the time.
There is something about this group that makes you question their seriousness on the first listen. But on the second and third time and on, you realize this music is completly original. You will probably say something out loud to yourself like "Fuck, this is like the coolest song I've ever heard in my whole life...".
Every summer, I feel the urge to re-read "Scar Tissue", Anthony Kiedis's memoir. It's full of drug tales and musical love. The basic love, sex, rock and roll story. I'm not sure why this is a summer must read, but it is. My mind works like this: summer+ sunshine= California. And California + music= Califonication, the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Some music just eludes summer like: Reggae and House, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, The Byrds, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Once the snow clears I'm blasting my summer tunes from my car.
But when the snow is knee deep, I'm listening to some dark tunes, usually metal, hard rock, and Swedish pop, like the Knife, Avenged Sevenfold, H.I.M. Anything Scandinavian.
My musical choices depend on my moods. My moods sadly are controlled by the weather. Thankfully summer is here and thank the stars for the magic of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The above video is a live clip of "Pretty Little Ditty" in 1990. If the one riff sounds familiar, don't be alarmed. Your remember that song "Butterfly" by Crazytown more than a few years ago? Either they "sampled" that riff or stole it. The resemblance is uncanny. Anyways, I'm digging Anthony's dance moves in this video so much. He makes me melt.
Edward Sharpe and the Magentic Zeros will be making an appearance at Bonnaroo this year.
Such an epic group. Earlier today I described them as A spaghetti western done by hippies.
I don't know what that means either, but yet I still feel the description fits.
The below video (an 8 minute epic, part of a 12 installments) is a desert fantasy. It makes me want to suck the moisture out of a cactus, take some peyote, and wander the desert in a hand knit poncho.
Okay, okay this boy (man?) has got me hooked in a bad way. He is none other than Jesse Keeler of MSTRKRFT.
First, I fell in love with Death From Above 1979 a few years back. In high school my friends would play You're a woman, I'm a Machine at every party and we would throw down in the living room to it. I remember that ominous day when I had just made a custom DFA t-shirt earlier in the day, and when I got back to my place later on I found out DFA had broken up. I was devastated, but then my friend turned me on to MSTKRFT and explained Keeler was one part of the DJ duo.
I also remember the first time I heard MSTKRFT while driving around in that same friends car. It was like nothing I had ever heard, and it is still beyond epic.
Each time I see MSTKRFT live I have to fight the urge to bust up to Keeler and stroke that luscious mustache. I also have to fight the urge to attempt to get a swig out of that infamous Crown Royal bottle they bring to every gig. During the shows, Keeler lights cigarette after cigarette, so hence the accompanied photo. Beyond epic is the best description I can come up with for the beats Keeler produces.
Not in any way associated with Canada, Hockey comes at you full force with upbeat groves. A friend of mine managed to catch Hockey live at Bonaroo and raves constantly about them. They also recently rocked out SPIN's rooftop party. The word is out, Hockey is here to groove, sans pucks and sticks.
