Factory Girl

I'm reading Edie, American Girl right now.

So who comes to mind for style icons?

None other than Edie Sedgwick.

Was it her short cropped blonde hair and twiggy eyes?

Was it her penchant for wearing black nylons and fur coats?

Was it the long earrings, cigarettes, smoky eyes and leopard print?

I think it was her magnetic personality which translated through photos

that caught peoples attention.

She was doing something that no one else had done before.

Of course such a delicate soul would become enraptured with drugs and eventually ruin oneself.

Too bad, but she had a great burn out (minus that film Ciao! Manhattan)

Free Style to Weezy

More than anything right now

I want to be myself-

My true self that loves disco,

And smokes Marlboro's to Edie Sedwick videos on youtube.

I look at photos of things that inspire me and I just want to live.

Live to be myself-

Not anyone's girl, woman or trick.

I just want to be me

The one that gets a boner over vintage

The one that loves bubble tea

The one that just wants to dance in the club free style to Lil Wayne

The one that loves Led Zeppelin and The Byrds more than life

The one that loves western shit and wants to rock a bolo tie.

I want to be myself every day but I always feel like something is holding me back

Maybe it's peoples opinions?

It must be

Because if i let it all go

I would be wearing some fucking fab things.

Or it could be laziness?

Either way I feel that no one understands me.

People accept me but they don't get me except the few loves.

The don' t get that I die to write

That I die to listen to music

That I die to drink wine and have a good conversation

I die to dance to some 80's jam

They don't get it and I probably don't get them

So really I want to show more of myself some how

The easiest way is through dress

I should let it all go, rock a bolo and gaucho.

Style and Inspiration

When I think about Style Icons only a few ladies come to mind:

Kate Moss-her coked out eyes and leopard print coats.

Mary Kate Olson- the bag lady look.

Krystal Simpson- rock and roll 70's inspiration. We are soul mates.

Edie Sedgwick- Again the factory girl look, twiggy eyes, silver and gold, stripes and

leopard print, damaged goods.

Anita Pallenberg- I don't know a lot about her yet but

she is fab. in her fur coats and in Performance.

Penny Lane in Almost Famous- Everything about her.

Pamela Debarres- the flowers in her hair, eternal flower child in lace

Suzanna from Spanish Moss- gothic type of vintage with a Californian charm.

and maybe a little of Lindsay Lohan. Again, I love the trashy coke head look.

But most of the style and inspiration comes from men.

A big part of what I like could be described as Keith Richards meets the Cobra Snake.

Steven Hyde from that 70's Show meets Oscar Wilde.

Gram Parsons meets Julian Casablancas.

Robert Plant meet Steve Aoki.

David Bowie and Iggy Pop.

I love the look of the dandy. The suave man in velvet with long brown hair and pouty big lips- like Mick Jagger or Julian Casablancas.

I love the glam and mystery of Bowie. All the colours and costumes.

I love the country times of Gram Parsons. Nudie suits and navaho patterns. The Southern Californian dream.

I love the pure pleasure of Robert Plant. Flowing shirt busting open to a bare chest.

Oh my, so much inspiration.

The Crystal Cave

I move in to my new apartment today, hopefully. There are a few things I'm going to do to christen the place which I will call affectionately from here on "The Crystal Cave", which is, for now, a working title.

1)Christen it with some wine, preferably white this time, and blast Led Zeppelin as loud as I can just so the neighbours know there is a new person in the suite.

2)Take a Jim Morrison and The Doors bath. Light some candles. Think "I'm a lost little girl" and drift, drift away...

3)Smoke a cigarette on my leather couch and watch Factory Girl. Channel Edie Sedwick and Warhol all at once.

4)Cook the deluxe vietnamese meal. Or order in the deluxe meal. I can't decide. A food coma is sure to be enduced.

Like a True Rolling Stone

It's my dream to own a leopard print coat.

Both muses Edie Sedwick and Kate Moss are both in on the idea.

You're the Boss, Applesauce

Day 2:

She is Mr. Warhol's most famous Superstar. She is Edie Sedgwick: a glamourous, old money, drug riddled, superstar.

Her demise was not pretty but her rise to fame sure was fabulous.

She roamed the streets of New York wearing a leopard print coat and also had a tryst with a certain Folk singer (Bob Dylan). Sedgwick is quite and intriguing muse.

Re-imagined on the Silver Screen

There is nothing I romanticize more- other than music- than films. The following is a make shift list of my top picks for films, not in any particular order

1) Rebel Without a Cause- Live fast, die young with James Dean. Classic.

2) Dear Wendy- Indie film about Dandies, guns and a fabulous Zombies soundtrack

3) The Doors- Bio pic about Jim Morrison.

4) The Bride of Frankenstein- One of my favorite horror/sci-fi films.

5) Almost Famous- The coming of age story of

a rock journalist. Based loosely on the life of Cameron Crowe.

6)East of Eden- Another James Dean classic. Epic Story.

7) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas- the Hunter S. Thompson epic come to life courtesy of Johnny Depp.

8) Willy Wonka and the Choclate Factory- The childhood classic with a sinister Gene Wilder.

9) The Wristcutters: A Love Story- A love/suicide story that ends the opposite of Romeo and Juliet.

10) The Beach- The one movie where Leonardo DiCaprio is not annoying. It's a savage film about true human nature.

11)Chitty Chitty Bang Bang- Disney Classic next to Marry Poppins. It turned me on to Dick Van Dyke.

12) Blow- Johnny Depp as legendary drug dealer George Jung.

13) Four Brothers- Mark Wahlberg is bad ass and makes us forget Marky Mark while protecting his brothers.

14)Lords of Dogtown- Semi historical film of the upstart of skateboarding.

15)Factory Girl- Bio pic of Edie Sedgwick's life. Very Warhol.

16)I'm Not Here- Bio pic of Bob Dylan's life told by 7 personalities.

17)A Clockwork Orange- A Stanley Kubrick classic.

18)Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2- Quintin Tarantino duo films with Uma Thurman as an assasin and Lucy Lu kicking butt.

19)Singing in the Rain- Best musical of all time.

20)The Graduate- Dustin Hoffman's first film. Mrs. Robinson is so naughty.

21)I Love You Man- One of the most genuine comedies, filled with bromance.

22)Across the Universe- The Beatles soundtrack re-imagined, visually stunning, it's the ultimate trip.

23)Fight Club- Brad Pitt looking buff, Edward Norton taking your mind on a trip.

24)Metropolis- One of the first science fiction films ever made. Fritz Lang imagines female robots taking over society.

25)The Virgin Diaries- a Kirsten Dunst classic. It's about suicide hint.

26)There Will Be Blood- The thirst for blood and oil. Outstanding film of the 2000's.

27)C.R.A.Z.Y.- Indie flick about a boy coming of age to the soundtrack of Bowie and Patsy Cline.

Are You Seeing Clearly?

Are you seeing this goddess (Edie) clearly? Is your vision blurred? Too many drinks already? And it's not even New Years Eve yet.

This post is to commence a kind of recap- let's stay away from countdowns- for the decade, the 2000's.

The 2000's will not be known for its decadence that's for sure. I'm not sure what the decade will be known for but this is rather a quest to figure it out.
