The Bottomless Blue

The November playlist:
This month is tough for me. Less sunlight and most likely snow (here in Alberta). So I stuck to gloomy 80's inspired tracks or trippy sun drenched tracks. This playlist also features some of the Smiths instrumental tracks, which are not frequently played as well as some killer tracks by She Wants Revenge, a sexy synthy goth-esque band I was super into a few years ago. Either way, this playlist will get me through this month.

Private Idaho- The B-52's
National Anthem- Lana Del Rey
Shoplifters of the World- The Smiths
Blue Monday- New Order
Yellow Lines- Mount Sims
These Things- She Wants Revenege
That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore- The Smiths
About her- Malcolm McLaren
Videotapes- Blouse
The Headmaster Ritual- The Smiths
The Modern Age- The Strokes
In Between Days- The Cure
Oscillate Wildly- The Smiths
The Waves- Tamaryn
Obstacle 2- Interpol
Teen Age Riot- Sonic Youth
Nowhere- Wild Nothing
Taken for a Fool- The strokes
We Used to Wait- Arcade Fire
Sister- She Wants Revenge
Banquet- Bloc Party
Love Fade- Tamaryn
Harsh Realm- Widowspeak
Money Changes Everything- The Smiths

The Night's Not Over

"He seemed impressed by the way you came in.
'Tell us a story
I know you're not boring'

I was afraid that you would not insist.
'You sound so sleepy
just take this, now leave me'

I said please don't slow me down
If I'm going too fast
You're in a strange part of our town...

Yeah, the night's not over
You're not trying hard enough,
Our lives are changing lanes
You ran me off the road,
The wait is over
I'm now taking over,
You're no longer laughing
I'm not drowning fast enough.

Now every time that I look at myself
'I thought I told you
this world is not for you'

The room is on fire as she's fixing her hair
'you sound so angry
just calm down, you found me'

I said please don't slow me down
If I'm going too fast
You're in a strange part of our town...

Yeah, the night's not over
You're not trying hard enough,
Our lives are changing lanes
You ran me off the road,
The wait is over
I'm now taking over,
You're no longer laughing
I'm not drowning fast enough."

Meet Me In the Bathroom

So it's obvious I have a "thing" for Julian Casablancas.
That thing may be described as a "boner" or "obsession",
However you wish to state it.
Julian is the first of the modern day rock gods to be posted.
Mainly he ranks above Steven Tyler, Axyl Rose, and Alice Cooper
because he is so sexy and luscious.
His voice is iconic of a generation and definitely
makes me swoon.
He continues to amaze me with tracks like "Boom Box"
and "5th Dimension" when he is solo.
I await the next Strokes album.

Snake Skin Boots

Wild Horses- The Stones
Taken from the documentary "Gimme Shelter."

The striking part of this clip is how much Mick Jagger reminds me of Julian Casablancas from the Strokes. It's uncanny in a way, but also it makes complete sense.
Rock gods will be recycled and re-created. Never replaced.
Resemblance will be drawn from the legends and used to create something new.
Those pouty lips will always be attractive...

Yes. It's all I can say...

Yesterday, I almost fell out of my chair when I went on Twitter. I almost had a full out explosion in front of a silent room of 30 people.

It was announced that the beloved Strokes are in the studio working on a fourth album.

All I can say is....Yessss! This is music to my Stroke hungry ears. It's been straight up famine until Julian did a cameo on that Lonely Island song "Boom Box" and then release his solo album.
Now, with this recent news, truly all my dreams and fantasies can now come true.

Listen To This!

Phrazes for the Young LP

This album from the Strokes front man Julian Casablancas is definitely a win. It's good to hear that voice on some new tracks.
The LP was released in November but, I'm just starting to get into it now. Check out "11th Dimension" and "30 Minute Boyfriend"

Check out the music video for "11th Dimension" here

The Decade In Review

Band of the Decade
This honor goes to The Strokes though many other bands qualified.
They took downtown cool to the masses and revolutionized
modern day rock in a style conscious way.
RollingStone named Is This It the #2 album of the decade.
Honorable mentions
Radiohead
The White Stripes
and Coldplay

Rapper of the Decade
Eminem
No one can match Eminem in record sales, popularity, or skill,
though he did fade out near the end of the decade.
Honorable Mentions
Jay-Z
and Kanye West

Entertainer of the Decade
Britney Spears
Britney became a household name and stayed in the spotlight,
despite her several mishaps (K-Fed, shaving head, no underwear etc). She definitely made some of the catchiest pop
songs of the decade - "Toxic", "Opps I did it again", "Womanizer".
Honorable Mentions
Justin Timberlake
and Beyonce

Fuck Up of the Decade
It's a tie between Amy Winehouse
and Pete Dohertry.
Both were hooked on drugs, shouting obscenities, wandering around
without shoes, and basically creating a ruckus wherever they went;
Total fuck ups that the press ate up.

Movie Series of the Decade
Harry Potter
HP is iconic as far as fantasy films go. Though not as well made as Lord
of the Rings, HP created mass fandom through out the entire decade,
and there is still 1 more film left.
Honorable Mention
Lord of the Rings

TV Show of the Decade
American Idol
AI dominated ratings and created several superstars in the process
ie- Adam Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry, Carrie Underwood.
Honorable Mention
Dr. Phil
