So another birthday has gone and passed. And really this one was something to remember. One day of celebration turned into four days of fun.
My actual birthday consisted of working (hanging out with farmers all day) and then heading out with two of my co-workers to drink copious amounts of wine at a waterfall.
The day after my birthday consisted of being hungover, checking out a museum (part of my job) with my two best friends and then heading to my hometown for a birthday supper and then drinks with friends and family. All of my loves were there and it truly was the most magical night.
Saturday then consisted to heading to #yyc, my old home city to help a friend find a place to live, shop for records and roam around. Headed to a pub for supper with a co-worker and then I checked into my downtown hotel. Met up with my partner in crime shortly after to do some drinks and dancing at a tiki room called Bamboo that plays strickly soul.
Sunday I headed back to my hometown and then to a family celebration to say goodbye to my sister who is moving away to Vancouver. Somehow I made it through the day without crying until I got into my car and was driving home towards Twin Peaks (I mean my new mountain digs).
Who could ask for a better birthday weekend than that? All I wish is that I had some photos to remember these majestic days that I will never get to relive. The stars aligned on the correct weekend and I am truly grateful.

Frozen Sunshine

This week has been crazy. Lots of work related stress and consumption of wine due to this stress. I went to my first Bootcamp exercise class last night and now I can barely walk. This week is crushing me, but I'm doing what I love so it's worth it in the end. A new apartment tour should be on its way soon.

Everything is Purple

It's been two days since my roomie left for a "post holidays vacation" and I'm already going stir crazy. So far tonight has involved my normal night cap of wine, watching Modern Family, drinking some Cosmopolitians, watching Sid and Nancy, smoking some Marlboro lights, figuring out how to order them online, blasting Rod Stewarts' "Maggie May" and then looking at photos of Wiz Khalifia and Amber Rose. Conclusion is: I should not be left alone this long. Cheers.

Long Nights, Red Wine
There is something about this band that really caputures me. I saw an ad for their first album in Rolling Stone in 2006. I went and bought the album and fucking loved it.
The vocals are creepily sexy in a non Marilyn Manson way. More like Paul Banks from Interpol blended with some Bravery and Julian Casablancas. The music is edgy and dark but still dancey. All the songs are about sex, love and clubs, which fits perfectly with the music.
When I hear She Wants Revenge, I want to prowl around a club in heels, clutching a glass of wine, and dance. This band is all about atmosphere and I really can't describe it anymore other than what the above video captures.

Let's Drive Until We Meet the Grand Canyon, Baby

The Crystal Cave has become a mess of dishes, wine bottles and cut outs from Vogue and Nylon magazine.
This place is really growing on me. This city is starting to feel like home, despite the fact that I moved here over a year ago.
When I went back to my hometown this weekend, I could barely force myself out of my friends hippie van when we reached our destination.
I thought "why can't we just keep driving? Fuck our families at thanksgiving. Let's drive till we see the cacti. Let's drive till we meet the Grand Canyon." And I know they would go for it, except they are "responsible" stoners, not "spur of the moment" stoners. They still go to work 9-5 and pay the bills, that type of stoners.
So I hopped out of the van, wishing I could be back at the Crystal Cave, drinking wine and blasting the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
