And If This Is the End...

When I think of summer jams, a few songs come to mind, not out of pleasure but out of pure repetition. This particular song seems to follow me everywhere I go this summer. In the beginning, I was not a fan. But this track is growing on me. It probably doesn't help that I am having my hair metal/rock phase right now either. I never thought there would be a day where I felt lost because I missed listening to this weeks issue of House of Hair with Dee Synder.
Well here you go Axyl, "Sweet Child O' Mine"- Guns N' Roses.

Search and Destroy

I'm a street walking cheetah
with a heart full of napalm
I'm a runaway son of the nuclear A-bomb
I am the worlds forgotten boy
The one who searches
and destroys

Summer Jams Pt. 1 of 3- Frolic To

Some songs soundtrack the sun soaked days and blistering nights where you have to sleep sans clothes. Some of these tracks in the summer jams series are how I view the summer days; drenched in re-verb and dreamy synths with Byrds like harmonies. Some of the tracks are also how I view the nights; sweaty house beats or reggae/hip hop inspired jams. This playlist is full of dreamy tracks that make me want to frolic though a magical forest wearing my headdress.

1) Deadbeat Summer- Neon Indian
2) Come with me- Ceo
3)Animal- Miike Snow
4) Chinatown- Wild Nothing
5) Ampling Alp- Yeasayer
6) Warhol's Portrait of Gretzky- Hawksley Workman
7)Of Moons, birds and monsters- MGMT
8)Shelia- Atlas Sound
9)Odessa- Caribou
10)Cheerleader- Grizzly Bear
11)Blessa- Toro Y Moi
12)O.N.E.- Yeasayer
13)Castles in the snow- Twin Shadow
14)Hall(Asura Remix)- Baths
15)So this is goodbye(Pink Ganter Remix)- William Fitzsimmons

Pretty Little Ditty

Every summer, I feel the urge to re-read "Scar Tissue", Anthony Kiedis's memoir. It's full of drug tales and musical love. The basic love, sex, rock and roll story. I'm not sure why this is a summer must read, but it is. My mind works like this: summer+ sunshine= California. And California + music= Califonication, the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Some music just eludes summer like: Reggae and House, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, The Byrds, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Once the snow clears I'm blasting my summer tunes from my car.
But when the snow is knee deep, I'm listening to some dark tunes, usually metal, hard rock, and Swedish pop, like the Knife, Avenged Sevenfold, H.I.M. Anything Scandinavian.

My musical choices depend on my moods. My moods sadly are controlled by the weather. Thankfully summer is here and thank the stars for the magic of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The above video is a live clip of "Pretty Little Ditty" in 1990. If the one riff sounds familiar, don't be alarmed. Your remember that song "Butterfly" by Crazytown more than a few years ago? Either they "sampled" that riff or stole it. The resemblance is uncanny. Anyways, I'm digging Anthony's dance moves in this video so much. He makes me melt.

He's Such a Charmer, Oh No..

You know those charming types.
Those ones that have such white, shimmering smiles that you want to knock their teeth out because they are too perfect.
Their smile is so infectious that you start to smile while thinking about how their smile is so disgustingly beautiful.
Yes, those charming ones that look deep into your eyes when they talk to you, making you feel that you have their ultimate attention at that moment in space in time.
They are so convincingly sincere that it's repulsive.
You probably know one of those charming folks.

I'm lucky and cursed to know one and be in close proximity with them day in and day out.
I'm constantly in limbo whether to fall in love with this person or smash them in the face out of hatred.
When someone is too charming for words, it's a little off putting to say the least.

My friend calls this charmer "the Hitler youth" or "Hitler's son" because he is so Aryan it's ridiculous. She claims he is the smartest person she has met, but at the same time despises his smile just as I do. Maybe this charmer is too perfect and his perfectness bothers me. I don't feel inadequate around the charmer, but I have to fight the urge to say "You are the most sane, balanced person I have ever met." And I wouldn't mean that in a good way.

So charmer's out there watch out. I'm on to your tricks. Your wit and charm can only go so far...

Better Not Mess With Major Tom

David Bowie and Iggy Pop.

Check out the dilated pupils.
Iggy's on another planet, perhaps with Major Tom.
I always see this duo as me and my partner in crime.
I'm Bowie and she is Iggy.
I'm flamboyant and she is strung out.

"Ashes to Ashes
Funk to Funky
We know Major Toms
A junkie
Strung out in heavens high
Hitting and all time low.

My momma said, to get things done
Better not mess with Major Tom."

I'm With the Band

It's about time I've credited this lady.

Miss Pamela DeBarres, Queen of the groupies in the late 60's and early 70's. The prettiest member of Frank Zappa created girl group The GTO's. Miss P. was romantically involved with many rockstars. To name drop a few: Jimmy Page, Keith Moon, Chris Hillman, Robert Plant, and Mick Jagger. To name a few.

She wrote a kiss and tell memoir called "I'm with the Band: Confessions of a groupie". You will have to read it to find out more about her trystes and who she rubbed shoulders with.

I admire Miss P for her freedom. She lived life to the fullest with such a vulnerable heart. She fell hard, got hurt, but moved on to love again. She is a true free spirit. Groupie is a little harsh but not necessarily a damning term. The character Penny Lane in Almost Famous is based off her, as well as the character Suzanne in The Banger Sisters. Needless to say, Miss P left quite a legacy.

I Got a Fever of 103

Sounds of the world. Meet Cambodian pop band from L.A. Dengue Fever. Don't let the name confuse you. No disease here, just some good tunes.

Stay Gold!

We walk through dreams
We walk through nightmares
but I run through reality.

I'm on the pursuit of happiness
and I know
Everything that shines isn't always going
to be golden
I'll be fine once I get it through.
I'll be good once I get it.
