Ritual

Under My Wheels

March Playlist:
The playlist this month is inspired by three things:
-One part Metal Evolution. The VH1 documentry series hosted by Sam Dunn. In particular the Thrash episode (which I have watched over 10 times this month).
-One part 90's grunge.
-One part movement. The feeling of driving down the road. Whether it's about crashing motorcycles through walls, driving down the inner state, or the flow of water, this playlist captures the movement of life. Perfect for a drive down the highway at breakneck speed.

When You Were Young

"When You Were Young"- The Killers
From the album Sam's Town
This video and song stands as one of my favs of all time. The video involves cowboy boots, deserts, and romance. The track invokes something deep that I can't really explain especially the lyrics. They get me every time:

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now ... here he comes!

He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young

Can we climb this mountain
I don't know
Higher now than ever before
I know we can make it if we take it slow
Let's take it easy
Easy now, watch it go

We're burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane that started turning
When you were young
When you were young

And sometimes you close your eyes
and see the place where you used to live
When you were young

They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while.

You're No Jesus

I saw Incubus several years ago. I was always in love with this track but when they played it while the sun was setting and the purple hues reflected along the walls of the Gorge, I knew I would live in that moment forever.

On the Road Again

Second night at my new apartment. And surprisingly I may be the noisiest person in this complex. This literally is my sixth move in a year. I feel like I have moved so many times I am ready to establish myself.

And I feel like I can do that finally, now that I have a legit 9-5 job. Yes it does require some desk work, sitting and building up a timbit belly, but it also requires me to drive around, meet people and be outdoors, sometimes on someones farm, sometimes taking scenic photos of the surrounding area. And what more can I ask for? I am truly blessed and I hope to stay here for a while. Really settle in to this small town life style, just out of the reach of the big city, just close enough to the mountains.

I feel like I have so much more time in the day to do things. I don't feel the need to sit on my ass and watch TV all night. I got places to be. Things to see. Wine to drink. Yoga to do.

This is exactly what I need. I am so lucky to be here. Things really fell into place and I thank God for that.

This new apartment has some character. Fairly old school on the top floor with a balcony and a semi-mountain view. It has an extremely tacky kitchen and bathroom floor and some old school features. I think it has the perfect balance just like myself. Admiring the old school elements with a new school vision.

I plan to spend many days here, drinking coffee while the sun rises, sipping wine while the sun sets (or maybe a mojito) and possibly renting out my second room for the summer. My mom has already decided she is moving in for Easter break and possibly all of summer. What a treat. At least I have a bedroom for visitors to enjoy. It's nice to have that extra space.

As for Calgary, yes I will miss it. I will miss my friends, record stores, coffee shops, and pubs. But nothing really else. I like living at a slower pace. I like seeing trees when I look out the window. I like frolicing by the river without a hobo asking me for money for his sick daughter. Having space is def. a luxury.
