Honky Tonk Woman

I met a gin soaked, bar-room queen in Memphis,
She tried to take me upstairs for a ride.
She had to heave me right across her shoulder
'Cause I just can't seem to drink you off my mind.

It's the honky tonk women
Gimme, gimme, gimme the honky tonk blues.

I played a divorcee in New York City,
I had to put up some kind of a fight.
The lady then she covered me with roses,
She blew my nose and then she blew my mind.

It's the honky tonk women
Gimme, gimme, gimme the honky tonk blues.

Girl In Love

"Girl in Love"- The Smith Westerns

This track is so T-Rex like, I think Marc Bolan would be proud.
It took me a while to warm up to the Smith Westerns. I think the first time I listened to them, I didn't hear this song, because this song is the gateway drug.
It's bringing me in.

Last Day of Magic

It's been a while since I've post some of Krystal's magic.
I love this dress so much! It's magically psychedelic in
that I see many Dead Heads fantasizing about
wearing this to a show, chomping on some acid
that's 40 years old
(that they bought from a former hippy come business man)
and lifting off to the sky.
Magic.

Mr. Freedom Fashion

This is more than a little kitschy. 70's fashion film for Mr. Freedom Fashion with some cheesy electronic tunes in the background.

It has some fashion trends in that are re-surfacing today: floppy felt hats, maxi dresses, and jumpers. And it has some randomness: Pop art shirts with Pinocchio on them and random dance numbers with teddy bears. Overall, it's classic.

Field of Clover

This video is unexplainable. How it flows so effortlessly to such magical music.
This is the type of track, that to me, sounds like reggae/shoe gaze/lo-fi/ mixed in with some ganja and magic. And there you have it, a beautiful track to get high to, come down to, cry to, whatever you want to do. Which is the point of music- when it has the power to take you away.

Rastafari Love

"Hold You"- Gyptian
One of my fav. Jamaican artists.

Today for a class I had to read an editorial in front of the class about the legalization of marijuana. Like usual, my writing does not take the typical route. I busted out some philosophy and rastafari references. I even quoted Peter Tosh, which to my dismay, so did a beautiful hipster boy. I was thinking, "shit someone else has game." During my classmates readings, all I could think about is how they are all pro legalization, but how many have them smoked a joint in the past 24 hrs? I can say that I have and I don't really care about legalization of marijuana, as I should, and do, have free choice anyways.

Back to the initial thread- In research for the article I learned about the Rastafari culture and that "Rastafarianism" is kind of a derogatory term. And I began to think about how some people have told me reggae is "stoner" music or particular to a certain race.

Music is blind. It is blind to race. Anyone can connect to. Reggae is for anyone who has a soul. I feel it, and so should you...

Girl Of My Dreams

Another of my muses is Miss Ali MacGraw.
Star of Love Story and ex-wife of Steve McQueen.
Both of those thing are enough to call her it-girl or muse.
But what Ali has is strength and determination
that sets her out from others.
She has battled with alcoholism and has stood underneath
the glaring, critical eye of the media.
What I admire about Ali the most is that she picked up her
LA life and moved to the mountains of Santa-Fe.
She is now a wise, sagely woman
roaming the mountains with her dogs and living in an adobe hut.

Topanga Canyon Beauties

Danielle & Jeffertitti for Stylelikeu.com

Inspiration leads to creation.
My ultimate inspiration right now is Stylelikeu and in particular, this video of a magical couple in Topanga Canyon.

Here's Stylelikeu's description:

"Jeffertitti says that he is from Jupiter, which I truly understand, because I often feel like I am from Mars. I also get why he and Danielle made the move from concrete to nature, because when I am making that drive up the winding, mountainous, breathtaking road to Topanga Canyon in LA, where they live, I start to feel a little bit closer to heaven too. Topanga is a refreshing throwback to the raw and organic beauty of the ’70s and it is not unusual for people to have a teepee in their back yards, like Danielle and Jeffertitti do.

Danielle has that “I don’t care,” free-spirited Stones girl style that makes your head spin. She’s reminiscent of the iconic Ali McGraw (whose comfort in her clothes makes you shiver) in a ’50s turban with a vintage sequin and satin cocktail dress and mod, geometric tights. Jeffertitti, however is not so much Ali’s husband, Steve McQueen, as he is Danielle’s Braveheart, with his face paint, braided medieval long locks and beaten up shoes. Together, they make beautiful music, jewelry and clothes."

Of course I am instantly enraptured when someone phrases Ali McGraw, Stones girl style, face paint, and tepee together.

Enjoy! Feel inspired to be the "real" you, or whatever

Lovers Quarrel

"I Know"- Jean- Pierre Caner

This is a truly beautiful creation. It involves all of the things I love: desert roads, polaroids, 70's porn star mustaches, Marlboro's, blonde wigs, drinking out of mason jars, and oh yeah, BETRAYAL...

Take a Trip To Laredo

"Canyon de Chelly may be located at the far northeastern corner of the state of Arizona, but it's situated squarely in the heart of the social and spiritual history of the Navajo people. Few other places in the Southwest encompass the past and present of a region and a people as completely as Canyon de Chelly, and a visit to its expansive lookouts, silent cliffside ruins and contemporary Navajo communities is an authentic Southwest experience like none other."

"The area has been inhabited by people for at least 10,000 years, beginning with nomadic hunting tribes, who then gave way to semi-permanent agricultural communities about 8,000 years ago. The people now known as the Anasazi were here until roughly the 12th century, when they made their enigmatic exit from the area, leaving behind the pueblo-style houses that can still be explored today. These architectural ruins, as well as the fascinating and well-preserved petroglyphs and pictographs throughout the Canyon are major attractions of the area. The Navajo arrived around 1700 AD and have continuously inhabited the canyons ever since."

Modern Age

True style.
I love these on the street kodak moments.
This is where the future is going.

Bygones Be Bygones

All I'm searching for is something authentic. Something real that I can feel in my soul, especially in music. And I would like to say that this track encompasses this.
It feels legit, it has soul, a fucking swagger beat, epic vocals. It means something to me and a lot of others and I think that is why this track has lasted the test of time. It ranks among Missi Elliot, N.W.A., Nas, and Snoop Dogg, and many others.
