Liberal Art Superstars

I've had this secret fear that I am hipster and I have come to the conclusion that, yes, I am indeed a hipster. I try to hide my hipster ways but it's hard to disguise what's real. Here's the general opinion on what a hipster is from the trusted source Urban Dictionary:

"Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter... Although "hipsterism" is really a state of mind,it is also often intertwined with distinct fashion sensibilities. Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often be seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses. Both hipster men and women sport similar androgynous hair styles that include combinations of messy shag cuts and asymmetric side-swept bangs. Such styles are often associated with the work of creative stylists at urban salons, and are usually too "edgy" for the culturally-sheltered mainstream consumer. The "effortless cool" urban bohemian look of a hipster is exemplified in Urban Outfitters and American Apparel ads which cater towards the hipster demographic. Despite misconceptions based on their aesthetic tastes, hipsters tend to be well educated and often have liberal arts degrees, or degrees in maths and sciences, which also require certain creative analytical thinking abilities.."

You can read the rest here

I would also to like to add in that hipsters like to ride older cruiser type bikes with baskets on the front. Oh yes and the word: pretentious.

Being a hipster is not a bad thing. But it is rough fitting yourself into a certain subculture or group. I've been told many times that I am hipster so many times that it must be a true... But labels in the end don't matter. I just want to be honest with myself and dress and act as I wish. The goal is not to follow trends but embrace ones own interests and aesthetics.

Are You Coming Or Going?

Sexiest track ever.
White Arrows- "Coming or Going" (RAC remix)

The Sauce Makes All the Difference...

This is all the rage. So many cameos( Pharrell, Chromeo, The Roots, Ezra Koening, Kanye)
This song should be your new jam. It's so uplifting. It should get you up out of your chair and busting it down on the floor!

Self Saotoge

I'm starting to wonder if I am becoming my own worst enemy, that in the end I will be the one to sabotage myself.
I find that I can charm the shit out of anyone, but then when it comes down to action, like calling someone, I bail out.
I find myself signing myself up for things, feeling positive about it, and then withdrawing from it. Or not showing up at all.
I always feel like I am fighting against myself to get things done. I want to be charming and productive but the inner Virgo in me, says "Fuck no, go back to sleep".
Here is more about my indefinite dual personality:

"Leo/Virgo cusp people have the vitality and ambition to be successful in their creative endeavors and are industrious and efficient when working for a good cause.

The Virgin reflects the qualities of a virgin, rather than the definition: Virgos and Virgo cusps tend to be shy and somewhat nervous, and they may be undemonstrative.

The Leo/Virgo is a curious mixture of introverted and extroverted tendencies, modesty and flamboyance, and a capacity to see both the largest and the smallest picture in every situation.

Leo/Virgos are good businesspeople because of their methodical attention to detail and their ability to stick with a practical and organized routine. They are good organizers, and they tend to be popular, even inspiring.

Leo/Virgo cusps are gregarious and social, fun-loving and live life with enthusiasm.

The natural leadership of these people and their administrative prowess help ensure that their projects are successful.

Leo/Virgos enjoy exploring subjects or interests deeply.

They are very good at understanding the deeper meaning of what others say.

They rely on logic rather than emotion to make their decisions. They are reliable, practical and diligent, but they can sometimes seem picky or overcritical to those who aren't as discriminating as they are.

Leo/Virgos are decisive and direct, optimistic that they will succeed. Sometimes they exaggerate problems and overreact to stumbling blocks, but generally they are positive and their natural pride and stubborn streak keeps them from giving up.

Their warmhearted and outgoing personalities are fiery and abundant. They are cheerful and self-assured, and they are studious and sensible in business dealings.

They are skeptical of extravagant claims and promises.

Many Leo/Virgos, however, love to gamble, and may be brash and extravagant at the gaming table.

They also tend to be very health-conscious. They are concerned with diet and hygiene. This interest in health ensures they take good care of their mental and physical selves.

Their perfectionism and physical strength make them strive to excel in whatever sport they choose.

Leo/Virgo is devoted and sometimes jealous, but not especially flirtatious.

The great strength of Leo/Virgos is in their creativity and attention to detail, and their desire to be of service. They pick up on the little things that most miss. Thoughtful gifts or unique solutions to problems are second nature to those with this astrological placement. Their commitment to helping others makes them one of the most giving characters of the zodiac."

The just of this is that I want to be introverted and extroverted at the same time. I am shy and flamboyant at the same time. This is why I always feel like I'm fighting myself for control. This is definitely a fatal flaw. When I tell people I am born on the cusp, they say something like "Oh you are a cuspian, you are one of those." One of those Dr. Jekyll and Hyde characters?

Femme Fetale

"You're written in her book
You're number 37, have a look
She's going to smile to make you frown, what a clown
Little boy, she's from the street
Before you start, you're already beat
She's gonna play you for a fool, yes it's true
Cause everybody knows
She's a femme fatale"

Next Level Shit

Die Antwoord deserves another post, just because of this video
"Zef Side"- Die Antwoord
"Like this chick in a g-string, can I touch you friend?"

Be My Samarai?

I've been getting into some "off the wall" music lately down here in the Crystal Cave.
No more Stones. It's dubstep and Die Antwoord all the time.

There is something about this group that makes you question their seriousness on the first listen. But on the second and third time and on, you realize this music is completly original. You will probably say something out loud to yourself like "Fuck, this is like the coolest song I've ever heard in my whole life...".

Yo-Landi Visser and Ninja= epicness.
Die Antwoord- "Enter the Ninja"

Beauty and the Beast

Beautiful Brian Jones.
The most beautiful Stone.
The most talented Stone,
until his fatal flaw took him over.
The first to have Anita Pallenberg
on his arm.
A true Rock God and dandy.

Aoki Away!

This cute hipsters in space cartoon is too funny.
And it features Steve Aoki, so yes please!

I haven't heard shit like this in a long time. Something that was created in this millennium that has this much soul.

Damian Marley and Nas- "Patience"

From the golden album "Distant Relatives". You have to pick this album up physically or digitally. A must have!

Heart of Stone

Spanish Moss beauties.
I want this headdress so much
that I dream about finding it.

Shiver For Me Now...

There is no way pictures can do this man justice.
Anthony Kiedis
The Rock God who they say
suffers from Iggy Pop syndrome,
which is not at all a bad thing.
One of my fav. vocalists and performers.
He has the stamina of a stallion,
the charm of a snake,
and the body of Michelangelo's "David".
Since 7th grade I've had it bad
and I know that I will always swoon.

True Romance

I watched Requiem for a Dream
for the first time a few nights ago.
The film had a profound effect on me for days.
After finishing it, I had to go for a walk to clear my head.
I think I saw myself in all of the characters.
I think that I could easily slide into addiction if
I am not careful.
I connected with Sarah Goldfarb
I understand the loneliness of living on your own
in an apartment
and how you hold on to the one thing that makes
you happy.

I especially love the scene where
Leto and Connelly are lying on the ground
in the apartment after shooting up
and he tells her she is the most
beautiful girl he has ever seen.
That, in a nutshell, is
the romance of doing drugs.
That you will have these seductive
devastatingly, romantic moments
with the one/thing you love.
But the seduction fades
and the emptiness becomes reality.

Jaded

Yes, I'm the one that jaded you.
Steven Tyler
Another luscious lipped Rock God.
The first to tie scarves to his mike stand.
When I think about Mr. Tyler
I think of that 70's Show episode
where Donna imagines Eric as Steven Tyler.
He has edge
He has style
He has sex appeal.
Would you love him in an elevator?

Here to Stay

There are few things that I am unabashed for.
Most of these things involve musical genres (except Disneyland).
Let's break it down: I love hip hop/rap.
This genre has been with me all along, but not as long as country or classic rock
yet, it seems to be a part of me.
Sometimes, I just want to hear the haggard voice of Lil Wayne
the style of Kanye West
the smoothness of Snoop Dogg
the angst of Eminem.
Sometimes, all I want to do is go out
and bust it down to some old school hip hop.
I don't care what the hipsters say.
I would take Snoop over Beach House any day.
I know that hip hop isn't just a passing trend
where every week there is a new buzz band
that releases one great album then disappears.
Hip hop is hear to stay
and it's riding on the giants shoulders.
